Description of the field:

Occupational therapy is one of the branches of rehabilitation sciences that aims to create maximum functional independence, improve quality of life and health, and promote social participation through the use of various therapeutic methods based on purposeful and daily activities. The methods and exercises used in this specialty are based on the principles of biomechanics, neurology, and psychology, focusing on the evaluation, treatment, and counseling of children and adults with disabilities in physical, sensory, cognitive, and social functions. The Occupational Therapy Group of the Faculty of Rehabilitation Sciences in Hamadan was established in 2009 to provide rehabilitation services to the target community.

History:

In 1971, specialists in occupational therapy were sent to Iran by the World Health Organization to train occupational therapists, providing their informal training for two years at Shafa Yahyaiyan Hospital in Tehran. In 1973, with the establishment of the School of Rehabilitation Sciences, this program became official.

The history of this field at the Faculty of Rehabilitation Sciences in Hamadan dates back to 2009.

 

Vision

Standardizing teaching methods and evaluating students

Launching the occupational therapy department in affiliated hospitals of Hamadan University of Medical Sciences

Expanding primary health care services including screening and disability prevention Preparing and editing clinical guidelines for specialized areas of occupational therapy

Strengthening the position of occupational therapy in the healthcare system

 

General purposes

Providing evidence-based educational content in line with World Federation of Occupational Therapy standards to students

Conducting workshops to enhance clinical skills and update scientific knowledge Society's goal

Training capable, responsible, and health-conscious graduates

Effective collaboration with educational and healthcare centers for clinical education

Conduct research relevant to the needs of society

Publish articles in reputable journals

Enhance interdisciplinary collaborations Effective collaboration Conduct applied research to empower individuals with disabilities and their caregivers

Active participation of faculty members in occupational therapy educational group in congresses and reputable conferences

Present occupational therapy interventions in line with global standards at various levels including prevention, health promotion, and counseling to the community

Expand various fields of occupational therapy in centers, hospitals, and other community sectors

Enhance the level of functional independence and participation of individuals with disabilities in society
